Note This egg-stand and the eggcups it supports are both made from Sheffield plate, that is, silver plated copper. The six spoons are made from sterling silver. It is therefore possible that these are not the original spoons. This is part of Whistler’s collection of silver. The pieces date mainly from the late 18th and early 19th century, and came from Holland and England. This piece was bought by the artist in the late 1880s and 1890s with his wife Beatrix Whistler.
