Life as Art

Whistler wanted every aspect of life to be beautiful and so he also designed costumes, fans, parasols, jewellery and trellises. There was nothing that Whistler did not consider to be important for the artist. He was very concerned about his own personal appearance and was known to go out with a bamboo cane and yellow ribbons on his shoes. He was even concerned that the food he was served should be colour coordinated!
